About Us

“Yonah” was an Indian word that means "Bear". In Native American culture, the black bear is often regarded as a child of the Great Spirit. For thousands of years, the black bear served as the definitive spirit guide for the Cherokee Indians who lived in the mountains where Black Bear Lodge is nestled. Bears in Native American culture and myths represent wisdom. They are guardians and teachers, and sometimes even healers.

Yonah Mountain Yoga & Wellness Adventures was birthed out of an understanding that nature-based play and movement in the outdoors is the greatest catalyst for profound change and deep healing. The ancient yogis observed the interdependency of nature and through those observations, the asanas (physical postures) were born. Think tree, cobra and mountain pose!

Blending both clinical and spiritual practices, YMYWA is passionate about springboarding the wilderness as a medicine and therapeutic tool. We are not limited to just yoga! With over 15 years of experience in the wellness field, we bring a full scope of expertise in wellness practices to our clientele.

Many famous hikers have spoken about the spiritual aspects of hiking in majestic mountains. Forest bathing and therapy is a popular wellness trend throughout the US. We understand that nature amplifies overall well-being; restoring, rejuvenating and revitalizing body, mind and spirit.
